Membership is open to anyone with an interest in spinning, weaving or related fiber arts, and new members are very welcome. The membership fee is CAN$30.00 per year. Members may take advantage of the scholarship fund and also make use of a variety of rental equipment. Our library, perhaps one of the finest in the world, contains over one thousand books, periodicals and videos.

Membership gives you access to our library, workshops, informative programs and Show & Tell. There are interest groups (on textile design, various surface and weaving techniques, spinning, basketry and tapestry) and five issues of the newsletter — all for just $30 per year. Guild fees cover June 1 to May 31, regardless of when you join. Fees are not pro-rated and are subsidized by the Guild.

Library

The GVWSG has an extensive library. Please see our borrowing policies located on the Library page.

Buddy/Mentor Program

If you are new to the GVWSG and are feeling a little lost at meetings, please let me know.  We will match you up with a Buddy who will greet you at the meeting and take you under their wings.  We will try to find a Buddy close to where you live so that you can have someone to contact with a question or maybe even share a ride to events – that would be up to you and your Buddy to work out.  If you would like to be a Buddy and help introduce someone to the wonderful world of fibres and make them feel less overwhelmed at our meetings, let me know.

A parallel system of “Mentors” is also available to you.  The Mentor would be someone that you could call with a weaving/spinning/dyeing question or ask for help on your current project.  I have found over the few years I have been weaving that the members of our Guild are wonderfully generous with advice and assistance, when asked.  You don’t have to be brand new at your craft to ask for a Mentor, you may just feel a little less confident with what you are trying to create in your current project and need a bit of a helping hand.

If you would like to take part in the Buddy / Mentor program, let me, Jo Anne Ryeburn, know.  Tell me what you need, what your skills/interests are so that I can better match people.  If you feel you can mentor someone, let me know in what areas you feel you could help.  Also, please let me know what area of the Lower Mainland you live in.  You can reach me by email at mentor@gvwsg.com.
