2015 Jun – GVWSG Anniversary Cruise

July 14, 2015

In early June four Guild members set off on the GVWSG Anniversary Alaskan cruise. A fabulous time weaving, spinning, knitting plus welcoming a Scottish woman cross stitcher, set the “work” scene. Seated next to the upper deck crowsnest, the group had a great view of the scenery including impressive glaciers which are unfortunately quickly receding.

At Skagway the four took a ride on the White Pass & Yukon railroad that was built to take prospectors to the Klondike Gold Rush. An interesting yarn shop at one stop provided packages and plans for future projects. At Ketichan the group visited the old village which had houses on stilts and then took the funicular railway up to Cape Fox Village.   On the site of an old Tlinget village, there is now a hotel, museum, and restaurant with a fantastic view. Totem poles and lovely woven baskets contributed to the sights. A memorable GVWSG Anniversary trip!
