BC – Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival – 2009
Fibre, Naturally
Wow, we’ve seen previews of some of the work from our own Guild artists, and this is one exhibit you won’t want to miss! And there will be lots going on all over Granville Island so mark the week of August 11 – 16 on your calendar for sure, and don’t forget the June 1 deadline for entries.
There will be associated exhibits at several Granville Island locations; there will be ongoing demos; and of course there will be several special events at Emily Carr in connection with the exhibition.
The Craft Council of BC will host a Gala Fundraiser in the Gallery on Tuesday evening, August 11. On the Wednesday evening the Canadian Society for Asian Arts will present a free lecture on Hanji paper, given by Sang Jae Nam, and there will be demonstrations of the joomchi paper making process in the foyer of the Concourse Gallery. For more info on these and other events, check the web site www.cabc.net.
And of course on the Thursday evening we will enjoy some beautiful paper garments in a Fashion Show choreographed and designed by our own Guild members. There will be more information forthcoming on all of these events and more, and members of the 2 Guilds and FibreEssence will have the first opportunity, in May, to buy tickets for the Fashion Show ($20) before they go on sale to the public in June.
And there is one more exciting event: Emily Carr is presenting a Fibre Institute, with screen printing and dye classes from May 30, as well as a 3 day Master Class with Sang Jae Nam, Yvonne Wakabayashi, and Ros Aylmer. Registration opens April 16 at www.ecuad.ca/cs or 604-844-3810.
